ABOUT US

Youth for Change NGO is a registered society under Government of India, committed for the welfare and support of underprivileged children. We envision creating literacy for deprived kids in the city of Amritsar and the rural areas around it.

Inspiration: In India, Lohri is one of the most fervently celebrated festivals, exhibiting a dazzling array of kites that adorn the blue skies. Five years back on this day, a young passionate teenager eager to change the world around him was enjoying the colorful kites dancing in the sky when he caught a glimpse of a boy Sonu, his neighbor's domestic help, standing alone. The dismal look in his eyes moved him deeply. He walked up to him and offered him his kite. Sonu's simple sentence, "I wish I was born from your mother's womb" changed his perception about life. He realized, not everyone is as blessed as he was. Sonu wanted to become a doctor but education was

a distant dream for him who was struggling for everyday existence instead. He couldn't choose where and when to be born, but the young teenager could choose to help him. He felt motivated to rekindle not only his spirits but also of other such victims of destiny. This is how the organization, ‘Youth for Change’, that works for the support of children like Sonu in the city, came into existence.

Work: Today, Youth for Change provides elementary education to financially deprived children and make the public aware about the social evils prevailing in our society. We do this by providing children who work as domestic help or beggars on street with night classes, free books and all-round education with the help of donations from local organizations.
